"Hey," he blurted after hesitating for a while.
"Hmm?" She responded, her eyes were still fixed on the clear blue sky.
"Am I really weird like other people said?" No hint of his usual playfulness in his voice. He nervously gulped down the water in his mouth, anticipating her answer.
She brought her eyes to look at his. There was no sense of sadness in his voice and he quickly averted his eyes elsewhere, but she couldn't overlook the glimpse of pain in his eyes. He might appear indifferent when people around him call him a weirdo but she knew that deep inside, he was badly hurt.
He grew anxious when he received no reply, so he forced a laugh. "Forget it. I'm just-"
"To be honest, you're really weird," she stated suddenly without any ill intention.
He turned rigid. This- this girl is really straightforward. He quickly put his left arm over his tightly shut eyes. There was a stinging heat behind them. His chest pained too. A scoff escaped his mouth. "I see."
"But then you're fine just the way you are."
At those words, he opened his covered eyes again. Frowning, he tried to figure what she was trying to say. They don't add up. What do you mean?
"You're off the wall sometimes. Your random crazy dance moves always weird people out. You make incomprehensible comments. You even talk to yourself in different voices. Sometimes I really hope you can stop doing those. Just sometimes though." Shaking her head in amusement, she chuckled as she recalled the things that he did on daily basis. "But…"
His heart was beating in his ears. But what?
She softened almost instantly. "I can't imagine you stop being crazy. I can't imagine you with a normal personality." She grabbed his wrist and lifted his arm. He was staring at her with wide eyes and slightly opened mouth.
Overwhelmed, he quickly held her wrist this time and lowered the palm of her hand over his eyes. He didn't want her to red tint on his cheeks or his glistening eyes.
She didn't say a word nor resist his action. A sincere smile appeared on her face. "Don't ever change, okay?"
His free hand balled into a fist and his jaw tightened as he fought his tears back. Why? Why does she always say things that I want to hear? He released her hand, sat up straight on the bench and gazed admiringly at her. She still had that same genuine smile on her face. She was so effortlessly endearing, it made him want to hug her right there, right now. And he did. He enveloped her small body frame in his arms and held her tightly against him. "Thank you." He meant it.
She wrapped her arms around him and patted his back as a calming gesture. "You're very welcome."
Someday, someone will hug you so tight that all your broken pieces will stick back together. He never believed in that. He didn't believe that someone exist. But here she was. She wasn't even hugging him tightly right now but somehow he felt all of his broken pieces found their way to each other and stick back together again. I needed that. Thank you so much.
